what will a stranger tell me about me and my life that I don't already know?
They won’t. You are the expert of your life and Your therapist is the expert of the PROCESS of how you explore and integrate it.
What is the role of the therapist?
To create a relationship and an environment that feels safe enough to open up in as well to take on challenges that you wouldn’t otherwise. In other words, let’s get real.
What is the role of the client in therapy?
- Being open to discomfort. Therapy is work. Work that you do with the support of your counselor for yourself. You are the key tattva of your growth.
- Consistency – therapy is a lot more about the process than about how eventful or uneventful your week has been. When you show up to process a storm of challenges, you give yourself an opportunity to learn and polish survival skills. When you show up to therapy when you “don’t know what to talk about”, you give your mind the opportunity to use the stability to learn growth skills and coping skills so that when the storm comes back you will be able to survive more easily and maybe grow stronger too.
- Self-reflection – this is probably the most important thing you can do for yourself. You are not broken, and I am not here to fix you. I am not the expert of your life, you are. The value you can create by reflecting on your own thoughts and emotions cannot be replicated by anyone other than you.
What is Brainspotting?
Brainspotting is a brain-based technique which uses your eye positions to identify neural pathways that have been stuck due to trauma or other overwhelming experiences. Once we locate these “stuck points” through our vision, we use the direct connection it provides to our brain to focus on the memories, sensations and emotions stored in them so that the mind and body can complete it’s natural healing cycle. You can find more detailed explanations on the Resources page.
What are my rights as a client?
- You are entitled to full confidentiality, which means that it is part of my job to make sure that I dont tell people that you are my client and dont share the contents of our sessions with them. This means that your friends, family and relatives wont know who your therapist is and what you talk about unless you decide to tell them.
- To have the fee structure upfront. You shall have full knowledge for charges per session and will be paying the amount only prior to each session.
- You are in charge of deciding the frequency and length of our sessions
